Meet the Founders

Luma Building was founded by Henrique and Kuan, two experienced builders brought together not just by trade, but by shared values, integrity, and a vision to build better.

Henrique, originally from São Paulo, Brazil, and Kuan, from Pretoria, South Africa, each arrived in Australia more than ten years ago, seeking a new life — one with more meaning, connection, and opportunity. They came from very different backgrounds: Henrique had a successful career in international economics, while Kuan had already run a landscape business in the UK. But what united them was the same desire: to create something real, honest, and lasting.

Their paths crossed while studying Carpentry at TAFE Queensland. From classmates to best friends, they bonded through the challenges of starting over in a new country — navigating language barriers, family responsibilities, and the ups and downs of immigrant life. Their connection was instant, and their collaboration on-site proved to be just as strong.

Over the past decade, they worked across a wide range of projects: residential, commercial, renovations, new builds, and extensions. Most of their work was hands-on and self-directed, with very little time spent working under others. They were often called in to fix other builders’ mistakes, which slowly revealed a deeper problem in the industry — a lack of commitment to detail, communication, and long-term quality.

This led them to a clear conclusion: it was time to build differently.

Owner

Henrique

is known for his attention to detail, sharp thinking, and easygoing nature. He lives in Stanthorpe with his wife and enjoys spending quality time with her - exploring new restaurants, discovering different cuisines, going for nature walks, and travelling to new places. He’s also passionate about table tennis, weekend barbecues, and target shooting. Henrique is the kind of person who lights up any room with his spontaneous humour, loyalty, and ability to make people feel at ease. He also appreciates that Kuan never lets their friendship go cold — he’s the one constantly calling, texting, and making sure Henrique doesn’t disappear into the bush.

Owner

Kuan

is known for his warm energy, sharp mind, and genuine interest in people. He lives on the Gold Coast with his wife and two kids, and spends most weekends cheering them on. He loves soaking up the sun, relaxing in nature, and sharing good food with good company. He’s the type of person who can turn any casual chat into a deep, thoughtful conversation. Kuan is passionate about meaningful work, strong connections, and a good story well told. He also happens to be completely hooked on Brazilian barbecue, ever since Henrique introduced him — and now refuses to grill any other way.
