Residential extension

This Stanthorpe project saw us extend an established home, taking the works from the ground up — new slab, frame, roof, cladding and windows — through to a finished, weather-tight addition.

The challenge in an extension like this is rarely the new build on its own; it's making the new and the old read as one. We carried the existing roofline through, matched the gable pitch and ridge height, and set the eaves, fascia and window proportions to line up with the original home. Get any of those out by even a small margin and the addition announces itself — the eye catches every mismatched line. Done properly, the extension picks up where the existing house leaves off and reads as a natural part of the building.

We clad the new section in corrugated steel — a clean, durable, low-maintenance profile well suited to the Granite Belt climate — and set it against the original masonry so the two materials sit comfortably together rather than competing.

The result is an extension that adds the space the owners needed while respecting the form and character of the home it joins onto.
